Is Edge Hudson Yards worth it

Yes if you want a genuine outdoor sky deck experience. Edge is the only NYC observation deck where you can stand on a platform extending into open air. The triangular geometry is photogenic, the glass floor section is unique in the city, and the western views over the Hudson River at sunset are arguably the best in Manhattan.

The visit is recommended for first time visitors comfortable with heights, photographers, and architecture enthusiasts. Less suited for visitors with vertigo or fear of heights.

Types of tickets

Edge Hudson Yards has three main ticket categories.

  • General admission $43: Timed entry to the outdoor sky deck.
  • Express pass $77: Skip every queue, including security and elevator.
  • City Climb $185: Guided exterior climb to the building peak. Add-on to general admission.

Best time to visit

Sunset is the iconic Edge moment. Western orientation means the sky is set on fire over New Jersey while Manhattan glows behind you. Book the slot 1 hour before sunset, allow 30 minutes for the deck. Sunset slots sell out 2 weeks ahead in summer.

For families, mid-morning (10am to 11am) is the calmest. For couples, 9pm to 11pm offers the best city-lights atmosphere with smaller crowds than peak sunset.

How to get there

The entrance is at 30 Hudson Yards (corner of 33rd Street and 10th Avenue). Subway: 34th Street Hudson Yards on the 7 train, terminating right at the building. From Penn Station it is a 12 minute walk west. From Times Square allow 15 minutes by subway.

Combo passes that include Edge

Edge Hudson Yards is included in the Sightseeing Pass and Go City Explorer Pass. CityPASS does not yet include Edge in its standard package but does include it in some C3 select-3 combinations. The City Climb add-on is always paid separately.

The Shadow's Edge: the new 2026 add-on

The newest reason people are searching for Edge in 2026 is The Shadow's Edge. It is an immersive light and sound installation built into the deck level, a darkened gallery that contrasts with the blinding open-air platform a few steps away. You move from full daylight and the glass floor into a sensory room, then back out to the views. It changes the rhythm of the visit and gives photographers a completely different set of frames.

Two things to know before you book. First, The Shadow's Edge is not part of the base general admission, so check the option list and pick the bundle that includes it if you want the full experience. Second, it is timed separately on busy days, so arrive at the start of your slot rather than the end. If you only have time for one new NYC deck experience this year and you already know the classic skyline, this is the one worth adding.

2026 update: what changed this year

Three practical updates for 2026. Sunset slots now sell out earlier, often 3 weeks ahead in July and August rather than 2. The City Climb season runs longer, with limited winter dates added. And combo passes shifted: the Go City Explorer Pass still bundles Edge, which remains the cheapest route if you are visiting 3 or more paid attractions. We compare the decks head to head in our observation deck comparison so you can decide before you pay.

The Shadow's Edge is a new immersive light and sound experience added at Edge, set in a darkened gallery space inside the deck level. It pairs the open-air views with a sensory installation and is included in some 2026 ticket bundles. Check the option list when you book, as it is not part of the base general admission.
